Prayer Resources

  • ‘Lord, In your infinite mercy, guide me away from the virtual and into the actual, from feared tomorrows into this only now, from what I see on a screen to what I behold in my life, from what I am manipulated to desire to what I am content to have. Guide me to what is most real, because you know, O Lord, how unsuited my heart is for the artificial.’

  • Spirit of the Living God, Be the Gardener of my soul. For so long I have been waiting, silent and still--experiencing a winter of the soul. But now, in the strong name of Jesus Christ, I dare to ask: Clear away the dead growth of the past, Break up the hard clods of custom and routine, Stir in the rich compost of vision and challenge, Bury deep in my soul the implanted Word, Cultivate and water and tend my heart, Until new life buds and opens and flowers. Amen.

  • May today there be peace within. May you trust that you are exactly where you are meant to be. May you not forget the infinite possibilities, that are born of faith in yourself and others. May you use the gifts that you have received, and pass on the love that has been given to you. May you be content with yourself just the way you are. Let this knowledge settle into your bones, and allow your soul the freedom to sing, dance, praise and love. It is there for each and every one of us.

  • Sabbath rest Is not slamming on the brakes Until you screech to a stop For a single day of pause Before revving up again But setting your tempo of being To the lapping of the waves Upon the patient shore So the rhythm of nature Matches the rhythm of your life—remembering That you are nature as well.

  • ‘We don’t need fixing; we need someone who will hold space and quietly remind us that we are loved and not alone’

  • ‘Where you are (however unchosen) is the place of blessing. How you are (however broken) is the place of grace. Who you are (in your becoming) is your place in the kingdom.’

  • “Contemplative prayer often brings us to an intimate encounter with the love of God, revealed to us in Jesus. In such an experience we come to know ever more deeply that God is not against us, but for us; not far from us, but with us; not outside of us, but deeply within. As we take a quiet moment to reflect in a peaceful place, our minds and hearts become still and, in this stillness, become deeper and wider, inviting/unbinding the eternal quality of life in all its fullness. It is in the growing inner awareness of the eternal embrace of God that we find our true freedom.”

  • ‘Instead of asking, ‘have I worked hard enough to deserve a rest?’ I’ve started asking, ‘have I rested enough to do my most loving and meaningful work?’
